DISCLAIMER: The dragon realms is a combination worldbuilding project between myself and the Spyro the Dragon franchise. The events of Spyro the Dragon (Classic through Legends) are canon to this world, but it also contains a lot of original characters and extended worldbuilding for the dragon species that I wrote myself. I do not claim to own Spyro the Dragon.
The dragon realms before and during the cataclysm; Spyro pieces most of the planet back together, but some large chunks are left floating, tethered to the planet by a combination of gravity and magical force.
"The dragon realms" is what dragons refer to as their home-world, the place where dragons originally evolved, but this planet is not exclusively home to dragons, and may be referred to in different ways by different species. In fact, hundreds of species of anthropomorphic animals live on this planet, though their numbers are significantly smaller than that of the dragons.
The dragon realms is a planet of mostly water, with thousands of small continental islands of varying biomes and weather patterns. This planet orbits one sun and features two moons named Zella and Adrano.
The dragon realms recently suffered a great cataclysm; during the war against the aether dragon Malefor, he successfully caused the apocalypse and the entire planet began to burn up, break apart, and float into space. However Spyro, a much younger aether dragon, managed to piece most of the planet back together and put out the great fires. Much of the land is now floating islands, and dragons must fly long distances between some of the isles.

The dragon realms used to have a tectonic plate system beneath the main planet, but now that the planet has many floating chunks, tectonic activity is far less predictable.
The core of the planet is solid crystal magic, which effects gravity in anomalous ways.

Other Sophonts in the Dragon Realms |
The dragon realms used to be dividied into regions based on the profession of the dragons within. These regions were the Artisans (the arts, cooks, architects, performers, etc.), the Peacekeepers (blacksmiths and weaponsmiths, fighters and martial artists), the Beastmakers (animal tamers and pet keepers, biologists, work to restore endangered animal species and protect the land from harm), the Magic Crafters (magicians training in non-elemental magics such as teleportation, telekinesis, shapeshifting, etc.), the Dream Weavers (medics training in use of magical healing, as well as spiritual healers, psychologists, and therapists), the Aquifiers (underwater cities and transportation, marine biology and protection of sea life), and the Machinists (technicians, inventors, engineers, computer scientists, mathematicians, etc.). The other parts of the planet used to have a much lower population of dragons during this time period. Despite this, travel was incredibly easy due to the availability of portal magic.

However, as the ancient aether dragon Malefor threatened to return from his banishment, this way of living quickly became unsafe, and the profession-based regions were abolished.
At this point, dragon society became focused on building walled cities, weapons, armor, and other defenses in fear of a war against Malefor's army. Dragons began viewing their elemental magic as less spiritual and artistic, and more for use in battle. Portal magic quickly became unusable, as Malefor's forces harvested spirit gems for their own use.

In the post-war and post-cataclysm dragon realms, the population is uneasy and hesitant to return to pre-war lifestyle. Instead, the realms remain rather disconnected, and cities remain large and walled in. However, portal magic is beginning to be reintroduced, farms are regrown, art and entertainment return to the world, and life slowly becomes more lighthearted. Bunkers are converted into museums, and excess weapons and armor are recycled for use in training and performances.
My version of the dragon realms connects every Spyro game into one timeline. This information is here for Spyro fans to see how I've connected the games together, and what that means for the plot in this world! If you aren't a Spyro fan, these are just VERY basic overviews of each game, with a few details modified to tie each game together; I'd advise watching the Legend of Spyro trilogy cutscenes on Youtube if you think this is interesting!

|
Spyro is a young teen. He defeats the Sorcerer and faces a significant amount of danger and engages in fierce battles. He becomes a bit anxious and weathered and has to rest for a long while afterwards. He begins to realize that the reason he was allowed to face all his past foes without help from the elders is because they have been testing his abilities as an aether dragon. Hunter steps away from the Dragon Realms to join a pack of other cheetahs and train in archery. Bianca and Elora begin dating.
|
The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning
|
Spyro is now a teenager. When Malefor's army begins invading the realms, the elders and guardians realize that Spyro is still far too young to battle them. Thus, they put Spyro to sleep inside an artificial egg and attempt to hide him in a clutch of regular dragon eggs. Unfortunately, Malefor hears about this plan and invades the temple; the plot of A New Beginning proceeds as normal. Spyro finds Ignitus, and Ignitus and shows him the dragon temple, sending him on his way to rescue the other three guardians. Spyro defeats his long lost sister Cynder and recruits her to his side, but Malefor's soul is freed from Convexity in the process. The four elemental guardians, who are in a polyamorous relationship, end up adopting Spyro and Cynder (and Sparx, begrudgingly, because Sparx is really annoying now for some reason).
|
The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night
|
Spyro is led on a wild goose chase by the Chronicler, but he refuses to hide and insists on fighting Gaul. He does defeat Gaul, but Malefor is released into the dragon realms regardless of his efforts. He is forced to seal himself, Sparx, and Cynder into a crystal in order to protect against the collapsing mountain around them.
|
The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon
|
Spyro, Sparx, and Cynder are awoken from their slumber after three long years, awoken by members of Malefor's army. They plan to sacrifice the trio to a great beast. However, they escape with the help of Hunter. The dragons reunite with their four guardian fathers at Warfang and make the final march on Malefor's lair. They defeat Malefor's beast the Destroyer, but it refuses to die and anomalously returns to life. Ignitus burns to death while helping Spyro and Cynder reach Malefor's burned lands. As the Destroyer begins the apocalypse, the entire world goes up in flames and breaks apart. Spyro, Cynder, and Malefor fall into the core of the planet in the heat of battle. Spyro is unable to defeat him, but Ignitus's soul seals Malefor's soul inside the planet's core. Spyro then attempts to sacrifice himself in order to piece the world back together, but both he and Cynder survive the blast with the help of Ignitus's soul once again. The world is mostly restored to its former shape, but millions more pieces of land are left floating in place.
|
After Dawn of the Dragon
|
Spyro and Cynder are now adults, and reunite with their remaining three fathers. Spyro is unable to use his elemental magic for multiple years, due to how much energy he expended in his fight with Malefor. He reunites with Ignitus, the new Chronicler, when he returns to the White Isles to cuss out the old Chronicler, only to find that Ignitus has replaced him. Ignitus is able to leave the White Isles often as portal magic becomes accessible once again, as long as he keeps up with his duties of writing the books of time. Cynder and Ember start dating.
